Hope Deans brings
a style that is sultry, classy, yet jazzy when performing which makes
her exciting to see and hear on stage. Originally from Southern CA, Hope
attended Cal Poly Pomona where she first began her jazz journey. She
studied music of the legendary greats like Billie Holiday, Ella
Fitzgerald, Etta James, B.B. King, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and later
Roberta Flack, Phyllis Hyman, Janis Joplin and Natalie Cole, to name a
few. In California, Hope started off working with other local musicians
playing around town and sitting in on jam sessions when possible. She
had the opportunity to perform at the award winning restaurant The
Sky Room in Long Beach and she has jammed at Steamers Jazz
Club and Café along with Debbie Ebert and Johnny Blas. Hope
soon formed her own band, Doubletake, and immediately
became a crowd favorite performing in many clubs and venues in Orange
County.
A few of her favorite performances include performing aboard
Queen Mary in Long Beach, The Legendary Blue Guitar in
Palm Springs and as a guest performer at the Mrs. California
International Pageant. Hope has also had the pleasure of singing a
song accompanied by the master pianist for Ms. Nancy Wilson, Mr. Llew
Matthews.
She was once told by her jazz vocal
coach to be more laid back like Ms. "Fancy" Nancy Wilson, but Hope
is more of a sassy kind of performer who says she needs to
"move and groove when singing 'cause the body just wants to dance!"
Hope has moved audiences in other
countries as they enjoyed her style of Jazz, R&B and Blues.
Currently residing in Atlanta, Hope has become a hot new artist
on the scene. She has performed a Christmas concert, "Hope
for the Holidays," which was a fundraiser for PAPY
(Performing Arts Program for Youth) under the direction of
Hilda Willis of Living Your Art. She has also had the pleasure
of performing a one-woman concert honoring the ladies of jazz
with a tribute to Billie Holiday and Cassandra Wilson. In
addition, she has performed at Encore, The Grape at
Inman Park and other quaint jazz venues around some
great private events.
Hope has the proven ability to keep her audience entertained
and she brings her following with her. At a recent
performance, it was reported that she drew in the largest
crowd the venue has experienced with a local artist.
Hope
released her holiday CD “Presence," in
November 2008. The CD included several of Hope’s
favorite holiday standards including the beloved tune
“What the World Needs Now” featuring The Georgia Youth
Choir.
Look for Hope in '09 as she gears up for jazz
festivals, concerts and the release of a jazz CD with some
original tunes and some old favorites.
